How to manage Cookies and Scripts with Cookie Consent

Last Update: May 13, 2026

Elementor Cookie Consent helps you manage website cookies and scripts to comply with privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA. Use the Cookie Manager to categorize detected cookies and the Script Manager to control third-party script execution based on user consent.

What is Elementor Cookie Consent?

Elementor Cookie Consent is a comprehensive cookie consent management solution for WordPress websites. It enables website owners to comply with GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations by managing cookie consent, scanning for cookies and scripts, logging user consent, and controlling third-party script execution. This plugin offers an all-in-one solution that includes a customizable banner, consent management, scanning capabilities, and consent logs. It features a design-first approach with full customization options, including deep integration with Elementor Pro for banner design. The banner loads locally from your site, ensuring privacy-first tracking by measuring consent interactions rather than page views.

Note
Cookie Consent works with any WordPress theme and page builder. Core features are available without Elementor. Elementor Pro users can design banners using the Elementor visual editor and save designs as cloud templates.

How to Manage Website Cookies

Elementor Cookie Consent provides a central Cookie Manager dashboard to help you maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all cookies on your site. Cookies are automatically detected through site scans and categorized, but you can also manage them manually.

Cookie Categories

Cookies are organized into the following categories, each with an editable description shown to website visitors:

  • Necessary: Essential for site functionality (always active, never blocked).
  • Functional: Remembers user choices (e.g., language preferences).
  • Analytics: Collects data on site usage (e.g., page visits, clicked links).
  • Advertisement: Tracks online activity for relevant ads.
  • Unclassified: Cookies that the plugin has been able to classify.

To edit categories, see How to edit your Cookie Banner text and add additional languages.

Cookie Details

For each cookie, you can view and edit the following details:

  • Name
  • Domain
  • Duration: How long the cookie remains stored on a visitor’s device before it is automatically deleted by the browser.
  • Description (shown in the Edit dialog)

How to Manage Website Scripts

Website scripts are blocks of executable code, typically written in JavaScript, that run within a browser to transform static web pages into interactive, dynamic experiences by modifying content, responding to visiting actions, or communicating with external servers. Cookie Consent allows you to control the execution of third-party scripts based on user consent.

The Script Manager provides granular control over how scripts behave on your website.

Script Configuration

For each script, you can configure the following:

  • Script name: For identification within the dashboard.
  • URL pattern: To match the script (e.g., `google-analytics.com/analytics.js`).
  • Category: Determines whether the script is:
    • Necessary
    • Functional
    • Analytics
    • Advertising
  • Blocking mode: Cookie Consent offers three blocking modes for scripts:
    • Always Block: The script never executes, regardless of user consent.
    • Block Until Consent: The script is blocked until the user consents to its assigned category. This is the default for non-essential scripts in GDPR (opt-in) mode.
    • Never Block: The script always executes, bypassing the consent engine. Use this for essential scripts that are not automatically detected as Necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Elementor Cookie Consent?

Elementor Cookie Consent is a cookie consent plugin for WordPress that provides GDPR and CCPA compliant consent banners, cookie scanning, script blocking, and consent logging, all managed from your WordPress admin dashboard.

Do I need Elementor to use Elementor Cookie Consent?

No. Cookie Consent works with any theme and page builder. All core features are fully available without Elementor. However, if you have Elementor Pro installed, you can design your consent banner using the Elementor visual editor and save designs as cloud templates.

Does Elementor Cookie Consent make my site fully GDPR or CCPA compliant?

Cookie Consent provides tools to assist with cookie consent implementation, including banner display, consent collection, script blocking, cookie categorization, and consent records. Full legal compliance depends on many additional factors specific to your site and business, and you are responsible for ensuring your site meets all applicable legal requirements.

How does script blocking work in Elementor Cookie Consent?

For scripts loaded through WordPress’s enqueue system, Cookie Consent modifies the script tag to prevent execution until consent is given. For inline or hardcoded scripts, an optional output buffering method intercepts them. You can override the default behavior for any script in the **Script Manager**.

Can I switch between GDPR and CCPA compliance models after setup?

Yes. You can switch compliance models anytime from the Settings section in your Cookie Consent dashboard. The banner behavior, consent logic, and default button options will update to match the new model. Remember to review your banner content after switching to ensure the messaging fits.
