A Global widget gives you full control over a specific widget, that is displayed in multiple places on your site. Editing it in one place will instantly update the rest. It saves you the time and effort of going through the many pages on your site, and updating the content manually, one by one.
Hey everyone,
this is Noah from Elementor.
Today, I’ll be teaching you
about our cool and unique global widget.
Pay close attention because this widget
could help you in so many ways.
So, what is a global widget?
A global widget gives you full control
over a specific widget displayed
in multiple places on your site.
Editing it in one place will
instantly update the rest.
It saves you the time and effort
of going through many pages on your site,
and updating the content
manually one-by-one.
And now I’ll show you how it works.
So, I have here a nice page
with a testimonial widget.
Now, I would like to
add this specific widget
to other places on the website.
Which is why I will save
it as a global widget.
To do so, I simply go over to the widget,
click on the Save icon right here,
and name it, say, “Feature
Testimonial”, and save it.
Once the widget is saved
as a global widget,
note how it is instantly surrounded
by a yellow border instead
of the standard blue one.
In addition, note how in the edit panel,
are displayed the rest of the saved
global widgets on this website.
As you could see, aside from
the testimonial I saved,
I also saved a Slide two global widget,
a Gold Heading global widget,
a Pink Button global widget, etc.
Of course, you could switch back
to the standard elements
of Elementor right here.
Now, if I click on the Edit icon
of my new global Testimonial widget,
note how I don’t have the
standard Elementor edit panel.
Instead, I have here
this message reminding me
that this is a global
widget, and is now locked,
and I have here two options.
The first one is Edit global widget,
which as it sounds is to
edit the global widget.
And this means that every and
any change that I make here,
will instantly be
updated in all the places
that I added the
Testimonial global widget.
Clicking on it, will open
the standard editing options
of a Testimonial widget.
But, what if I have this global widget
in many places on my
site, and I would like
to change something only for this one,
without affecting the others?
This is what we have
the second option for:
Unlink from global.
By clicking here, you could unlink
this specific global widget
from the rest of them.
This means that it will
behave as a regular widget.
Once, I click here, a pop-up will appear,
and clicking on Unlink will open
the standard option of
a Testimonial widget.
And instead of the yellow
border that we had,
we now have the standard
blue border of the widgets.
And now, I’d like to insert
this Feature Testimonial
global widget into
another page on my site.
See right here.
So, I head over to the global tab up here,
and drag in the Feature
Testimonial global widget.
Now, once it’s dragged into place,
note how once again, we
have the yellow border
and the global widget edit panel.
And now, I’d like to
edit this global widget,
so we’ll be updating
not only on this page,
but also on the first page
we were on a second ago.
So, I click on the Edit button
in the Edit global widget option,
and change the image, say to this one,
change the Name, and Job.
And, then I’ll save the page,
and head over to the
first page and refresh it.
And, see how the Testimonial
is updated here as well.
Now, you can just imagine
how many amazing things
you could achieve with the global widget:
forms, countdowns, call-to-actions.
This is helpful for so many widgets,
and so many areas on your website.
Now that we’re on the
topic of widgets, get this!
You could even add a global widget
to your website through
the WordPress widgets area.
So, say I’d like to display this
Testimonial global widget
in the footer as well.
I’ll head over to the dashboard,
Appearance, widgets,
and here is you could see,
we have the Elementor Library widget.
So, I’ll drag it over to the Footer,
and here I could choose the
template or a global widget
that I would like to
display in the footer.
So, I will pick our Feature
Testimonial global widget,
and save it.
And then, I’ll head back to our page,
refresh it,
and scroll on down,
and here as you could see in the footer,
we have our Testimonial global widget.
The flexible options for the
global widget do not end there.
If we go over to the dashboard,
Elementor, My Library,
note how each template and global widget
has its own short code.
This means that you could
add your global widget
to any area that supports short codes.
So, for example, if I
have this standard post,
and I want to insert the
Testimonial global widget
into the middle of the content,
all I have to do is
copy the short code,
and insert it wherever I
want inside the content.
See? Here.
Now I’ll update the post,
and we’ll view it.
And see how we have here the
Testimonial global widget as well.
To delete a global widget, you could do so
in the Main Library page on the dashboard
where we were a second ago.
See here, by hovering on
each one, you could trash it.
And something very important
to remember, deleting the
global widget here will delete it
throughout the entire website,
meaning wherever it was displayed.
Now that we went over how
this incredible widget works,
I’ll just show you a practical example
from our Elementor website.
As you could see on this page,
we have here the Countdown widget.
This is actually a global widget
that we inserted also into this page.
See that?
So basically, the global
widget is pretty powerful
as its controls could be done
from any place in which it’s displayed.
