With Elementor, you can add custom HTML attributes to the <a> element of every link. This enables the addition of data-* attributes, ARIA (accessibility) attributes and values, header, footer, sidebar, rel=*, and other attributes that can be found here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add Custom Attributes to Link Elements of A Widget<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If a widget has a Link element, you can add any custom attributes to the link\u2019s HTML. For a list of custom link attributes, click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this example, we’ll add the attribute of downloading a PDF file when the user clicks a button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To add the custom attribute<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Select the widget by clicking it.

    The widget options appear in the panel.
    \"\"<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. In the panel, in the Link<\/strong> field, click the gear icon.
    The Link field contains a hashtag, leave it there.
    We’ll now add code to the\u00a0Custom Attributes<\/em>\u00a0field, using the format\u00a0key|value<\/em>. For example, to add rel=\u201dsponsored\u201d to the element’s HTML, enter\u00a0rel|sponsored<\/em>\u00a0here. To add rel=\u201dugc\u201d to the element\u2019s HTML instead, enter rel|ugc here. To add a title to the link element, enter title|Your title text goes here.\u00a0

  3. In Custom Attributes text field, add download|60’s fashions<\/strong>.
    Visitors who click the button will download a pdf file called 60′ fashions<\/strong>.
    Now let’s create a tooltip for the button.

  4. In the Custom Attributes field, add ,title|Learn more about cool 60’s fashions<\/strong>.
    Visitors who hover over the button will see a tooltip saying Learn more about cool 60’s fashions<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    [callout type=”tip”]If you add a title attribute, it will only display as a popup tooltip on hover if there is something in the Link URL field, so there must be at least a\u00a0\u00a0#<\/em>\u00a0in the field. It cannot be blank for the hover tooltip to work.[\\callout]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    [callout type=”note”]There is no ability to add a custom attribute to a link created within a Text Editor widget. Custom attributes are only available for widgets that specifically have a link field.[\\callout]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    [callout type=”warning”]For security reason, you cannot add JS-based attributes (like onclick) to your links.[\\callout]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Common Link Attributes use cases<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • Allow your visitors to download PDF files with a single button click by using the download=\u201dyourfilename\u201d<\/em> custom attribute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Implement relations SEO properties such as rel=\u201dnoopener\u201d<\/em>,  rel=\u201dnoreferrer\u201d<\/em>,  rel=\u201dugc\u201d<\/em>, and \u201crel=sponsored\u201d<\/em>. To add multiple properties to one attribute, simply list them with a space between them, e.g. <\/strong>rel=\u201dnoopener noreferrer\u201d<\/em>. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
