Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Post Excerpt widget grabs and displays a short section of a post. It is generally used in an archive or Loop Grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is the excerpt taken from?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The excerpt can be taken from one of two places – the excerpt text box or the post itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create excerpts with the text box <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Every post has the option to include an excerpt in the excerpt text box. This excerpt needs to be added manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two ways to add the excerpt manually – through the WordPress dashboard or through the Elementor Editor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add an excerpt through the WordPress dashboard<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open the post in the WordPress editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click the Post tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Enter the excerpt text in the text box.

    2. Click the Settings icon at the bottom of the panel.

    3. Enter the excerpt text in the text box.

      Generate excerpts using the post text<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      The other option is to generate the excerpt automatically from the post itself as described below<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Example: Adding a Post Excerpt to a Loop Grid <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Using the excerpt text box<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      In the example below, we\u2019ll add a Post Excerpt to a Loop Grid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You must have at least one post and the post should have a post excerpt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Create a Loop Grid and template<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Drag a Post Excerpt to the template.

        A post excerpt will appear in the template. When you save to the template, all the posts that contain post excerpts will have these excerpts displayed in the loop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Note: You can also include a post excerpt in a Heading or Text Editor widget by using a dynamic tag<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Using the post content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Obviously, creating a post excerpt is a time-consuming task. To make the process more efficient, you also have the option of automatically creating a post excerpt from the content of the post itself. To do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Add the Post Excerpt widget to the loop.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Click Post Excerpt <\/strong>in the panel.

        3. Turn the Apply to post content<\/strong> toggle to on.
          \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Select how long (in words) you want the excerpt to be.\u00a0

          If you don\u2019t select a number of words, the excerpt will contain the entire post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The Post widget will now use the content of the post to create the post excerpt. However, if there is a manually created post excerpt, the widget will use that post excerpt instead of taking content from the post<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
